Jermain Defoe talks England squad announcement: I deserve to be in it!

Sunderland manager David Moyes has warned fans to expect a relegation dog fight this season, but Defoe disagrees with his gaffer.

He said: “Maybe he was joking! I don’t know. As a player, I never really think that. I take each match as it comes.

“I can’t turn round and say it is a relegation fight. It’s never easy. But it is never easy for any team.

“Leicester showed that last season, and Leicester ended up winning the league! Whoever would have thought they could have done that in a long season.

“There are so many games to go. I think it is too early say it now.”
