Everton captain Phil Jagielka has heaped praise on new signing Ashley Williams following his first Premier League start for the club.
The Wales international missed the club’s first league game of the campaign but he started the EFL Cup win over Yeovil Town.
He helped his side keep a clean sheet before then starting his first league game in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Stoke.
The Toffees looked to have learned their lessons from last season, after conceding 55 goals under former boss Roberto Martinez.
Speaking after Saturday’s win, Jagielka has admitted that Williams has made a big difference already at the heart of Everton’s defence.
He told reporters: “He has only played two games but on paper two clean sheets.
“It is nice to have another voice out there. We are quite a quiet team. He captains his country, he captained his previous team so it is nice to have players on the pitch who aren’t scared to help their team-mates out.
“It makes your own job easier. Ash has played in a lot of divisions, played a lot of games and the experience and composure he has brought in the last couple of games puts us in good stead.”
