Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish has been dropped and fined by the club, boss Roberto Di Matteo has confirmed.
The 21-year-old was left out of Di Matteo’s squad for their Sky Bet Championship game at home to Newcastle on Saturday following an investigation into his conduct.
He will train with the first team on Monday and will be available for Villa’s trip to Barnsley on Tuesday.
“He has been fined and suspended for today’s game. Tomorrow he will be back and available for selection,” Di Matteo told Sky Sports.
Grealish was under a club investigation following reports he was at a party at a Birmingham hotel on Saturday night, with police allegedly called early on Sunday morning following complaints from guests.
Press Association Sport understands the England Under-21 international earns around B£15,000 a week after signing a new four-year deal earlier this month.
Di Matteo had said on Thursday Grealish had to “grow up” following the issue and refused to guarantee he would face the Magpies at Villa Park.
The Italian is the fourth manager to have to discipline Grealish after Paul Lambert, Tim Sherwood and Remi Garde.
Frenchman Garde dropped him last season after the academy graduate went out in Manchester following a 4-0 defeat to Everton as Villa won just three games to drop out of the Premier League.
They have made a poor start to life in the Championship and, before the Newcastle game, had won just one of their opening eight games.
