Stoke’s England keeper admits he’s resigned to missing out on this summer’s finals in France.
But the 23-year-old has vowed to come back stronger from the broken ankle he suffered in the 3-2 friendly win over Germany that will keep him out for at least three months.
He underwent surgery today, and is already targeting a return at the start of next season.
“I don’t think it (the European Championships) is going to be an option for me now to be honest,” said Butland.
“I won’t be able to play again between now and the end of the season and after the operation it’s all about working hard and making sure I come out the other side stronger and better than before.
“It is difficult because I’ve been working towards the Euros this summer, but I won’t be able to be part of that experience now.
