And Ferdinand was equally critical. He said: “To see the lack of fight, urgency and cohesion in the team, there is going to have to be a massive improvement in the second leg because that was not good enough.
“There was no excuses. Sometimes you look at the manager but then you have got to look at the players out on the pitch and they have got to put in a performance, you’ve got to see some sort of fight and today we didn’t see that and that is one of the most disappointing things about the game.

“They were better than us in every department. They played like a United team of old intensity-wise. They overuan us, they overpowered us form the word go.
