Former Swansea City assistant manager Pep Clotet has praised Rafa Benitez, following his fellow Spaniard’s return to the Premier League as Newcastle manager.
The ex-Liverpool boss took charge of the Tyneside club last week, although he could not lead the Magpies to victory in his debut game.
They lost to league leaders Leicester City by a 1-0 scoreline on Monday evening, and Benitez will be hoping to pick up his first win on Sunday against Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby, which you can listen to live on talkSPORT.
However, despite his losing start, Clotet believes Benitez could prove to be an inspired appointment by Newcastle as they look to secure Premier League survival with nine games left of the campaign.
Speaking to the Weekend Sports Breakfast show, Clotet said: “I think Rafa Benitez is a fantastic manager, and is a very good coach tactically.
“In the situation Newcastle are in, I think it is a fantastic appointment because he will prepare for games and adapt to every game and every situation, going game by game and analysing how this opposition is.
“Coming from Real Madrid, this is a fantastic experience to help Newcastle stay in the league. It works well for both.”
