‘I’d rather have a tree stump in goal than Simon Mignolet’ – Liverpool fans react to Loris Karius’ injury

30 Jul

Liverpool have been dealt a blow ahead of the start of the Premier League season, with the news that Loris Karius is set to miss two months of football after breaking his hand.

The summer signing has played all five of the Reds’ pre-season friendlies, and he was set to start the campaign as the number one keeper in Jurgen Klopp’s team.

However, he clashed with teammate Dejan Lovren in the friendly loss to Chelsea, and has returned to England from the USA to undergo required surgery.

This injury means the 23-year-old German is set to miss games against Arsenal, Tottenham, Leicester, Chelsea and Manchester United – with either Simon Mignolet or Alex Manninger set to deputise.

Mignolet seems the more likely given he has been first-choice at Anfield for the past few seasons, but this is not a thought that is cheering Liverpool fans.
