Stoke City target Axel Witsel has revealed that he wants to play in the Premier League or Italy next season.
The Belgian is ready to leave Russia this summer after growing tired with life at Zenit St Petersburg.
Roma and Stoke are the two clubs vying for the midfielder’s signature and he could go for as much as £20m.
Zenit had maintained faint hopes of keeping Witsel, but now the 27-year-old has confirmed their worst fears by expressing a desire to move abroad.
“Next season I would like to play in the Premier League or in Italy,” Witsel told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I would like to try a fresh experience in a different championship. I need a new challenge.”
