A fairly strong Liverpool side, including James Milner, Roberto Firmino, Lucas and Danny Ings, lost 2-1 to Huddersfield in a friendly.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp organised the behind-closed-doors game at Melwood on Friday to keep his players not on international duty fresh – but the game didn’t exactly go to plan as they were beaten 2-1 by the Championship outfit, managed by Klopp’s close friend David Wagner.
Milner, Joel Matip, Lucas, Alberto Moreno, Kevin Stewart, Firmino and Ings all started the game and Liverpool went in front in the second half through youngster Ovie Ejaria’s header before Town hit back.
Jack Payne equalised before Kasey Palmer seized upon a poor clearance from goalkeeper Alex Manninger to grab a late winner.
The Reds host Premier League champions Leicester City in their first home game of the season following the international break next weekend, when the club’s new Main Stand will be officially opened.
