The Croatian champions will go into their play-off opener on a four-game winning streak, El Arbi Hilal Soudani (38) and Junior Fernandes (82) both on target before a late consolation for the visitors.

The Austrian champions came to life after the break, Brazilian defender Bernardo putting them ahead against lowly Ried with a fine finish, and Valon Berisha making the result certain with a late finish on the counter.
Steaua v Manchester City

Steaua made it three wins from as many league matches this term, Jugurtha Hamroun and Florin Tănase scoring in the second half for the 1986 European champions.
• Manchester City 2-1 Sunderland
Josep Guardiola won his first competitive game as City coach, but it took a late Paddy McNair own goal to give his side the three points. Sergio Agüero’s fourth-minute penalty put City ahead, but Jermain Defoe levelled for David Moyes’s side.

Danish striker Kasper Dolberg, 18, scored his first two goals for Ajax (8 44), but Roda levelled for the second time on 90 minutes, earning a point despite having a player sent off at the death.
• Zenit 3-2 Rostov
Ten-man Rostov squandered a 2-0 lead as they suffered their first defeat in five games this season. Two goals from Dmitri Poloz (8 14) had the visitors in control, but the 44th-minute dismissal of captain Aleksandr Gatskan proved pivotal.
Young Boys v Mönchengladbach

The Berne side’s Swiss Cup first round tie gave them a good lift ahead of their European tie; Milan Vilotić and Yuya Kubo struck in the first half, with Yoric Ravet, Michael Frey (2) and 19-year-old Kwadwo Duah completing the rout.

A crowd of around 50,000 turned out as Mönchengladbach took on Lazio in their final pre-season friendly; there was little to shout about on the field, though that did not dampen the party atmosphere off it.

The Bulgarian champions lost for the first time this season, conceding a late Bozhidar Kraev goal in a hot-tempered game in Sofia. Ludogorets midfielder Anicet Abel was badly injured and was taken to hospital before full-time.

Plzeň are unbeaten in five games in all competitions this season following a comfortable league success on Friday night, Marek Bakoš, Michal Ďuriš and Jan Kovařík on target before team-mate Jan Kopic was sent off.

On Thursday, Hapoel Beer-Sheva beat Maccabi Haifa 4-2 in the Israeli Super Cup, despite trailing 2-0 at the break; goals from Maor Buzaglo (54 69), Anthony Nwakaeme (84) and Ben Sahar (90+3) turned the tide.

Dundalk top the Irish table despite losing their last two league matches, most recently 2-1 at Bray Wanderers on 10 August, midfielder Daryl Horgan scoring and being sent off on his birthday.

Serbian midfielder Vojo Ubiparip spoiled Legia’s afternoon as his 80th-minute finish handed Besnik Hasi’s side a second successive competitive defeat – they lost 3-2 at Górnik Zabrze in the cup in midweek.
Porto v Roma

Porto came from a goal down to win their first 2016/17 Liga game, Rio Ave scorer Marcelo sent off just before the hour. The visitors, 2-1 up at the time, made it 3-1 through André Silva before Porto’s Alex Telles received a second yellow card (65).

Roma beat Serie B side Latina 1-0 in their most recent friendly on 10 August, newly-signed centre-back Federico Fazio heading the early winner from Francesco Totti’s corner.
Villarreal v Monaco
• Leganés 3-2 Villarreal
At the end of a week in which Fran Escribá replaced Marcelino as coach, the Yellow Submarine lost to promoted Leganés in a pre-season friendly; Mario González put away a rebound and new arrival Nicola Sansone scored a penalty for Villarreal.
• Monaco 2-2 Guingamp
Bernardo Silva’s late strike ensured Monaco, 2-0 down until the 71st minute, salvaged a point from their Ligue 1 opener. The Portugal midfielder also drew the foul which allowed Fabinho to halve the arrears from the spot.
