HOTTEST AUGUST DAY FOR 13 YEARS: Health warnings as temperatures forecast to hit 35C

Piers Corbyn, forecaster for WeatherAction, said next week is likely to put last month’s heatwave in the shade.

He said: “We are certainly going to equal, or more than likely, surpass the high temperatures we saw in July.

“Hot air is coming up from Africa through eh Continent and then into the UK at the start of next week.

“This will give us a ‘Spanish plume’ situation and although we might not get an absolute record, temperatures will probably be among the top five recorded for August.”
