Hillsborough justice: Finally the truth is out… they took on the wrong families

All they did was go to a football match to support their beloved Liverpool. They should have come home.

They never did but, for all the mistakes that were made then, their families should not have had to endure the next 27 years and 11 days.

Even though this was undoubtedly the right outcome, there was still a sense of shock that after so many years finally the truth was out.

The first inquest should have brought the right result but the system failed the victims, the families and the survivors.

However, Everton chairman Bill Kenwright got it right in 2013 at the Anfield memorial service soon after the outcome of the original inquest was quashed.

“You’ve taken on the wrong mums,” he said, in an emotional speech.
