Arsenal have been alerted to the news Gonzalo Higuain is refusing to sign a new deal with Napoli and could soon be on the move.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has long been linked with a move for the Argentina ace and could resurrect his interest following the news he wants out of the Serie A club.
Higuain is under contract until 2018 but his brother and agent, Nicolas Higuain, says they will run it down before leaving the club on a free transfer.
However, there is a chance Napoli will look to cash in before then, and that could open the door for Arsenal to make a move.
“We arrived with a Champions League project, of being champions, of growing, and the response of the company was not the most correct,” Nicolas Higuain said.
“It’s their right to ask for his buyout clause, but we will opt for the path of not renewing the contract and he will be free in 2018.
“In these conditions we are going to respect the contract that we have with Napoli but we are not going to renew it under any circumstances. Gonzalo is super professional and will continue to give the maximum.”
