Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink has played down Thibaut Courtois’ recent comments regarding his future at Stamford Bridge.

Earlier this week the keeper, while on international duty with Belgium, refused to give any assurances that he would stay with the club beyond the end of this season after Chelsea’s struggles this term.

Hiddink seems set to depart in the summer and as such the issue with Courtois could well be for the next manager to deal with but the Dutchman says he is planning discussions with the shot-stopper.

He said: “Formally, he’s under contract. What I know from him, and his family, (is) he likes to be in London at the club. It’s difficult to react on what has been said or has been translated or mis-translated.

“I’d like to talk to him. But I don’t want to overvalue it (his comments).”

Courtois, 23, is under contract until 2019, meaning Chelsea are under no pressure to sell, but there has been talk of interest from both Barcelona and Real Madrid in recent weeks.
