Ander Herrera says Manchester United are improving and building a fantastic team as they prepare for the new Premier League season.
The Old Trafford midfielder refused to read too much into the Red Devils’ 4-1 friendly mauling by Borussia Dortmund in Shanghai on Friday.
Jose Mourinho’s team had played three games fewer than their German counterparts and were clearly a yard or two short.
United will take another vital fitness step forward when they take on rivals Manchester City in Beijing this Monday.
The Spaniard told reporters: “Dortmund are a very good team and they have already played four pre-season games.
“They are fitter and better, but there are no excuses. United should never lose.
“When you have four of five games, you arrive one second before the opponent.
“We don’t want to use excuses, but they are a very good team.
“We are improving and building a fantastic team. We are optimistic for the new season.
“We are a team. We want to be fit as soon as possible. We want to be ready for Leicester!”
