Ander Herrera says David de Gea’s performances demonstrate how happy he is at Manchester United after committing himself to the club.
De Gea was close to leaving for Real Madrid last summer, but his move collapsed on transfer deadline day after the paperwork was filed too late.
The rumours of Real returning with a fresh bid for the 25-year-old shot stopper, who has been arguably United’s best player this season, have been circulating again ahead of this summer’s transfer window.
But Herrera is optimistic that De Gea, who signed a new contract with the Reds shortly after the Real move broke down, will stay on at Old Trafford next season.
“I think he is very happy in Manchester United. You can see that,” Herrera said. “If you are not happy in one place you cannot play like that, so it’s easy to say that.
“We can be calm and optimistic, first because he is in a fantastic club and if we start winning trophies, it’s easier to keep world-class players.”
