Harry Kane ready to make critics eat their words

The Tottenham star has endured another slow start to the season, scoring just once in five games.

He missed a golden chance to rescue a point in the dying stages of his side’s 2-1 Champions League defeat to Monaco at Wembley on Wednesday night.

But Kane, who went eight games without scoring for Spurs at the start of last season, has a defiant message for the doubters who say he needs a rest.

He said: “People said that this time last year and I went on to win the Golden Boot and score 30 goals for club and country.

“People will talk, it doesn’t bother me. I’m fit, I’m ready to go.

“I’ll be ready on Sunday against Sunderland if called upon by the gaffer and hopefully I can get on the scoresheet and win the game.”
