West Ham have made a second attempt to land Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon and also told Chelsea Dimitri Payet is not for sale.
The Hammers look likely to be unsuccessful in landing the Lyon striker though as the French club has slapped a whopping £40m price tag on the head of the 24-year-old, who netted 23 times last season.
The chances of the Hammers paying that much are slim although they are thought to have made an offer in the region of £32m.
Meanwhile they have told Chelsea that Payet, who netted a wonder striker for France at Euro 2016 on Friday, is not for sale at any price.
The £10.7m signing only penned a new five-year deal last February, worth £125,000 a week, and the Hammers want to build a winning team around him rather than cash in.
