West Ham are said to be in a battle with Southampton for the services of Newcastle star Andros Townsend if the Magpies are relegated.

Two of either Newcastle, Sunderland and Norwich will go down at the end of the season and as soon as that happens other Premier League clubs will be cherry picking their best players of which Townsend is one.

He moved to St James’ Park in January from Tottenham but he is not expected to stick around long if they are relegated and he is reported to have an £8m release fee if they are relegated; the Geordies paid £12m for his services.

The Hammers, who are 12/25 with Titan Bet to beat Swansea City on Saturday, and the Saints have both apparently shown a desire to sign Townsend while he was with Spurs, but Daniel LevyÂ’s reluctance to let him go scuppered any moves.
