Arsenal are reportedly not worried that Jack Wilshere’s latest injury setback will lead to another lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The England international has had a torrid time with injuries over the past two seasons, managing just three appearances for the Gunners last term due to a serious ankle problem.
Wilshere’s most recent issue is a knee injury sustained during Arsenal’s pre-season trip to California, with the 23-year-old midfielder sitting out the friendly win over Chivas as a result.
Boss Arsene Wenger had hoped Wilshere would recover in time to be part of the squad that rounded off their pre-season preparations with a trip to Scandinavia but the club have since confirmed he will stay behind and work on his fitness.
Wilshere’s absence from the tour squad has raised fears he is set for more time in the treatment room but, according to reports, Arsenal’s medical staff have assured Wenger his problem is not long-term and he should return to action this month.
While Wilshere will stay in London, Arsenal have confirmed that Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey will go on the pre-season tour after returning to the club following an extended summer break.
