Arsenal have reportedly reignited their interest in Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka ahead of making a summer bid.
The 23-year-old Switzerland international was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium during the January transfer window but no deal materialised and he stayed put with the German Bundesliga outfit.
However reports claim Gunners’ boss Arsene Wenger remains a big admirer of Xhaka and would like to take him to the Premier League in time for next season with doubts surrounding the likes of current midfield duo Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky.
Sky in Germany claim Arsenal will pay a fee of £33million for Xhaka’s signature and offer the player wages of £122,000 a week to make the move to north London.
That would represent a handsome profit for Borussia Monchengladbach, who paid Basel £6.5million for Xhaka in 2012.
Liverpool are also believed to be interested in Xhaka, but it appears Arsenal are firmly in the driving seat at the moment.
