Iceland international Eidur Gudjohnsen believes Jose Mourinho is the right man to lead Manchester United back to Premier League glory.
The Portuguese coach succeeded Louis van Gaal in the dugout at Old Trafford following the culmination of the 2015-16 campaign after the Red Devils could only finish fifth in the Premier League standings, 15 points behind eventual champions Leicester.
United have not won the league title since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club in 2013 but former Chelsea forward Gudjohnsen believes Mourinho is the ideal man to restore the club to past glories.
He said: “Unfortunately for Chelsea, as a Chelsea fan, Mourinho can lift Man Utd back to the top.”
The 37-year-old, who played for Chelsea between 2000 and 2006, admits that he is not surprised that Mourinho, who had two separate spells as manager at Stamford Bridge, has now ended up in charge at Old Trafford.
He added: “It’s not a surprise, the way things panned out, but it’ll not be… it’ll hurt a little bit. Put it that way.”
