Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud believes Leicester striker Jamie Vardy wants to join him at the Emirates Stadium for next season.
The England international scored 24 goals in 36 Premier League appearances during the 2015-16 campaign, as the Foxes defied the odds to claim their first ever top flight crown.
Vardy’s form has seen him heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks, with many reports suggesting that the Gunners have triggered a release clause in the 29-year-old striker’s contract, believed to be worth £20million.
One man who would certainly welcome Vardy at Arsenal is Giroud, who believes the former Fleetwood Town player is desperate to join him in north London.
Giroud told Sky Sports: “I have been told that Jamie wants to join us and it’s very good news for us. I think we can be complimentary and that’s all I can say. He’s a fantastic player, so it’s good news for us.”
The Frenchman does not feel the potential arrival of Vardy will threaten his own place at the Emirates Stadium and he has welcomed the prospect of having more competition for places within the squad.
He added: “As I said in the past I am happy with competition. We have always had fantastic strikers at Arsenal and I want the best for this club. Hopefully he is going to help us win this title.”
