Cologne’s Jonas Hector has opened the door on a possible Liverpool move after admitting he would be tempted to work with Jurgen Klopp.
The left-back has been mentioned as a potential summer transfer target for the Reds as boss Klopp weighs up his defensive options.
There are doubts over the long-term suitability of first-choice Alberto Moreno and, with only Jon Flanagan and the untested Brad Smith as back-up, the German boss is expected to bring in reinforcements when the transfer window reopens.
Hector, who is rated at around £12million by Cologne, is now Germany’s first-choice left-back and is set to face England in Saturday evening’s friendly between the two sides in Berlin.
While he says he is not thinking about leaving Cologne at the moment, he hinted if Klopp were to make a move for him he would be tempted by a switch to Merseyside.
He said: “You always have to consider whether you are ready to take the next step. But at the moment I am not thinking about it.
“I think what we have to do at FC Koln is enough. I also have with the national team a big tournament ahead of us.”
But, when pressed by Eurosport how he would react should Klopp get in touch, Hector said: “Then I would start to think about it.”
