Jan Kirchhoff has said he feels the “happiest” in his career since he joined Sunderland during the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old German signed an 18-month contract with Sunderland for an undisclosed fee from Bayern Munich and has become a regular in boss Sam Allardyce’s plans since.
Kirchhoff has been used as a defensive midfielder with the Black Cats and has helped the side tighten up at the back during their four-match unbeaten run.
Despite the side struggling in the relegation zone, four points adrift of safety, Kirchhoff insists he has no regrets about joining the Wearsiders.
He said: “I did an interview yesterday with some newspapers and I told them it is one of the happiest times IÂ’ve had in my career. I feel very grateful to be here and it is just a positive feeling from day to day.
“Every single day is fun to work and to be part of this team and this club.”
He added: “My fitness is getting better and better from week to week and all of the staff have taken so much care of me; the fitness guys have watched out for me and given me an individual programme so I hope to profit out of my hard work.”
