Chelsea were keen to sign Niklas Sule during the summer, according to the Hoffenheim defender’s agent.
New Blues boss Antonio Conte was on the lookout for a new centre-back after Euro 2016 and eventually opted to bring back Brazil international David Luiz from Paris Saint-Germain.
However, it appears as though the 21-year-old the Germany international stopper was also a target and will remain so for the foreseeable future.
“Yes, there was interest,” Sule’s agent Karlheinz Forster told Bild. “The English have made it clear they’ll still be interested next year.”
The Frankfurt-born youngster, who was part of the German team at the Rio Olympics and has one cap for the full national side, explained the need for stability in his life as the reason for the snub.
“I’ve got my familiar environment here,” said Sule. “That was and is very important for my development and the base to put in constant performances at a high level.”
