Southampton striker Sam Gallagher is understood to be on the verge of sealing a season-long loan move to Blackburn.
Rovers boss Owen Coyle is keen to add to his attacking options after suffering an embarrassing 4-1 defeat at the hands of Norwich on the opening day of the season.
Coyle believes that Gallagher could play a big role next term and has identified the 20-year-old fringe player as a top target.
Gallagher has featured 20 times for the Saints first team, netting twice, while he spent the first half of last season in the Championship with MK Dons.
The striker was handed 15 appearances by the relegated club in 2015-16 before being called back by Southampton in January.
However, he still remains down the pecking order under new boss Claude Puel, and Coyle is hoping he can tempt Gallagher to Ewood Park with the promise of regular football.
It’s understood that talks have already started and Gallagher could link up with the Lancashire side in time to make his debut against Wigan this weekend.
