Chelsea hope £68m will be enough to finally land Everton striker Romelu Lukaku with a new offer expected as the saga continues.
The Belgium international has been a target for Chelsea all summer and the 23-year-old is believed to be keen on a return to the club he left permanently in 2014 after two loans at West Brom and the Merseysiders.
Lukaku has said on several occasions he wants to leave Goodison Park and make a step up to a club regularly challenging for the top four in the Premier League and, even though Chelsea are not competing in Europe this season, the forward wants to team up with Antonio Conte.
Some reports claim Everton are holding out for a huge £75million for Lukaku, who has scored an impressive 43 league goals in his three years at the club, but Chelsea are set to try their luck with a £68million offer.
Conte is after another striker this summer, despite already bringing in Michy Batshuayi from Marseille for £33million, as there remain considerable doubts over Diego Costa’s future at the club and Lukaku is the man he has turned to after Real Madrid ruled out selling Spain striker Alvaro Morata.
