Marseille are set to complete the £6.3million signing of Remy Cabella after triggering his release clause from Newcastle.
The 26-year-old midfielder moved to Marseille on a season-long loan last August following a disappointing debut campaign in the Premier League after his move from Montpellier in summer 2014.
Cabella has enjoyed a successful return to Ligue 1 and Marseille are poised to take him back on a permanent deal which will see Newcastle recoup a good chunk of the £8million they spent to sign him.
The news will be timely for Newcastle as they edged closer to relegation from the Premier League on Saturday after being held to a potentially costly 0-0 draw at bottom club Aston Villa.
They will go down if Sunderland defeat Everton at home on Wednesday so will need to bring in funds to cover the massive cost of losing their Premier League status.
