Frank Lampard talks England’s failure, Joe Hart’s future and his Steven Gerrard rivalry

Chelsea and Liverpool went toe-to-toe domestically and in Europe when Lampard and Gerrard were both in their pomp and now they face off as their careers wind down in America.

“It is nice in this stage of our career to have a rivalry, to want to win, but not have the same intensity,” Lampard, who wants to stay in New York beyond the end of this season, said.

“The Champions League nights were huge and it was always, the toughest game I found domestically, to travel to another English ground on a Champions League night.

“There were many a night I can recall Stevie driving from midfield at Anfield and I tried to reverse that at Chelsea and be our driving force.”

Tonight they drive two midfields on the other side of the Atlantic.
