Arsenal are set to miss out on another Leicester City star as Riyad Mahrez looks set to stay with the Premier League champions.
The Gunners have already failed to lure Jamie Vardy away after the striker penned a new improved deal with the Foxes, while another target, N’Golo Kante opted to join Chelsea.
Reports have been rife that Arsene Wenger could try and make it third time lucky by landing Mahrez, but that potential deal also looks to be doomed.
Foxes boss Claudio Ranieri says he is not expecting Mahrez to be heading away from the club and believes Leicester’s squad is now settled ahead of their title defence.
Speaking after Tuesday’s 2-1 friendly win at Oxford, Ranieri said: “I think everybody here is happy. It’s finished, the market has finished.”
Asked specifically if he had spoken to Mahrez, Ranieri said : “Yes, he wants to stay.”
Mahrez has three years left on his current contract and may be offered a new deal, meaning Wenger will have to look elsewhere for further midfield reinforcements.
