Bernd Schuster is interested in the managerial vacancy at Premier League newcomers Hull City, talkSPORT understands.

The former Real Madrid boss has applied for the position and is now keen to speak to Tigers chiefs about replacing Steve Bruce, who left his post at the KCOM Stadium last month.

The 56-year-old German last managed in Spain with LaLiga side Malaga and he has the likes of Real, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Bayer Leverkusen on his CV from his playing career.

Schuster, according to sources, believes his ‘world class experience on and off the pitch can take Hull City to the next level’.

Reports suggest former West Ham manager Gianfranco Zola is the front-runner for the post, but Schuster believes he is the ideal candidate.

He was in charge at the Bernabeu in 2007/08, where he won the league, and he ‘considers the likes of Jurgen Klopp, Antonio Conte and Pep Guardiola to be among his peers’.
