Former Everton favourite Tim Cahill is set to return home to Australia by signing a deal at Melbourne City.
The 36-year-old has been at Chinese club Hangzhou Greentown since February and has scored four goals in 17 league outings for the club.
But Australia’s all-time leading scorer is on the verge of agreeing a move back Down Under as Melbourne’s marquee guest player for the coming campaign.
Despite his heroics at international level, Cahill has never played in the A-League before having moved to England to embark on his professional career way back in 1997.
He first made a name for himself at Millwall before Everton signed him for £1.5m in 2004.
He went on to become a legend in the blue half of Merseyside over eight seasons at the club, during which he scored 56 goals in 226 Premier League appearances.
