‘Financial reasons stopped my Premier League transfer’ – Everton and Chelsea target Aymen Abdennour reveals why he stayed put at Valencia

Everton and Chelsea target Aymen Abdennour has revealed that only ‘financial reasons’ prevented him from moving to the Premier League this summer.

The two English clubs were heavily linked with the Valencia defender as they both made reinforcing their backlines a transfer window priority.

Chelsea eventually completed a deal for their former centre-back David Luiz while Everton replaced the Manchester City-bound John Stones with Ashley Williams.

However, Abdennour says he spent the summer discussing a move to the Premier League but ended up staying put in Spain.

He told Marca: “I was negotiating with English clubs during the transfer window but for financial reasons the transfer did not happen.

“Valencia is a great club and I have no problem continuing because I have four years left on my contract.”
