Fernando Torres will stay at Atletico Madrid this season after signing a one-year deal with his boyhood club.
The former Liverpool and Chelsea striker has sealed a permanent return to his home town following the expiration of his AC Milan contract.
Spain international Torres left the Blues for Milan in August 2014, originally on a two-year loan deal, before signing for the Italian giants permanently the following January.
But, bizarrely, he was allowed to re-join Atleti just two days later on loan until the end of the 2015/16 season.
And, after scoring 18 goals during his return to his homeland, the frontman has agreed a deal to stay at the LaLiga club.
“I’m delighted to continue at home, the only place where I ever wanted to be, and it has finally come true,” Torres told Atletico’s official website.
“[I am] happy to be here. I’ve never had doubts about where I wanted to be during all this process in which we didn’t know what was going to happen and, in the end, what matters is that I have achieved what I was expecting.”
