FA Cup final: Crystal Palace v Manchester United player ratings: Who marked highest at Wembley?

Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard grabbed the goals as Manchester United came from behind to grab a record-equalling 12th FA Cup at Wembley on Saturday night.

Jason Puncheon volleyed Crystal Palace into the lead after coming on as a second-half substitute, taking Joel Ward’s ball forward before hitting past David de Gea with his second touch.

Eagles manager Alan Pardew celebrated with a shuffle on the touchline only for Mata to level within minutes. Captain Wayne Rooney took the ball in midfield before driving forward and into the right hand side of the box. His drilled cross was chested down by Marouane Fellaini into the path of Mata, whose own volley was deflected into the net by Joel Ward.

Chris Smalling saw red, becoming only the fourth player sent off in an FA Cup final – and the second from United – before Lingard’s stunning intervention.

The midfielder, another substitute, who came on in injury time, sent yet another volley into the net, Antonio Valencia’s cross headed out by Damien Delaney to Lingard.

Victory ended United’s 12-year wait for the FA Cup, and gave Louis van Gaal his first trophy at Old Trafford, as rumours persist of Jose Mourinho’s arrival to replace him.
