Fenerbahce midfielder Raul Meireles is considering an offer to return to England and play for Aston Villa in the Championship.
The Portugal international is out of contract with the Turkish club this summer and it seems unlikely that the 33-year-old will be offered a new deal.
Villa are already planning for next season in the Championship and are understood to be targeting more players with experience of the English game.
Meireles was at Chelsea for a season, following a year at Liverpool that would have coincided with Villa’s head of recruitment Paddy Riley.
Reports in Turkey claimed Villa had opened contract talks with the veteran midfielder, known for his all-action style, regarding a potential switch to the Midlands.
Meireles, who has played just 12 times for Fenerbahce this season and has not featured since March 13, will make a decision at the end of the season.
The Istanbul club’s season will end when they meet fierce rivals Galatasaray in the Turkish Cup final on May 25.
