“Philippe Coutinho became the second most expensive footballer of all time when he joined Barcelona from Liverpool in a £142m deal”
There have already been some massive deals in the top flight this month.
Philippe Coutinho became the second most expensive footballer of all time on January 8th, with Liverpool accepting a £142m bid from Barcelona for the Brazilian playmaker.
The Reds used half of that money on Virgil Van Dijk, paying Southampton £75m for the Dutchman – the highest fee ever paid for a defender.
Alexis Sanchez and Henrik Mkhitaryan were also involved in a sensational swap deal that saw the latter head to Arsenal and the Chilean join Manchester United.
