Everton boss Ronald Koeman is close to making his first signing for the club as he closes in on Fulham keeper Maarten Stekelenburg.
Everton have a need for a keeper in the wake of Tim Howard’s return to the USA and the 33-year-old Dutchman is expected to seal a switch to Goodison Park over the weekend.
The keeper is thought to be available for around £1m and is well known to Koeman after a spell on loan at Southampton last season where he appeared 25 times for the Saints.
He has 54 international caps for the Dutch but has not featured for them since the last European Championships in 2012. Stekelenburg will battle it out with the former Wigan man Joel Robles for the number one spot next season.
