Sunderland are reportedly ready to offer Lamine Kone a double-your-money salary offer to see off interest from Everton.
The Blues are after the centre-back and it’s claimed boss Ronald Koeman has already been in touch with the Black Cats about an £18million bid.
However, Sunderland are hoping to resist all offers for the Ivory Coast international as new boss David Moyes wants to build his defence around him.
And, according to reports, the club are prepared to make Kone their biggest earner to persuade him to stay, with an offer to double his weekly pay to around £70,000 per week.
Kone is thought to be interested in a move to Goodison Park as things stand but may be tempted to stay at the Stadium of Light under fresh terms.
Moyes will not want to lose Kone, especially after Sunderland accepted a bid from Watford for their 30-year-old French centre-back Younes Kaboul, and is set to join the Hornets in the next 24 hours.
