Everton’s transfer hopes have taken another hit with the news that Marko Arnautovic has committed his future to Stoke City.
The Austria international, the Potters’ top-scorer and players’ player of the year last season, had been linked with a move to Everton and Tottenham this summer but Ronald Koeman will have to turn his attentions elsewhere after he signed a new four-year deal at the club.
Arnautovic has been a big hit at the Bet365 Stadium since his arrival from Werder Bremen in 2013 and the 27-year-old had one year left on his previous contract, but Everton were said to have triggered his buy out clause and were confident of landing him.
It is a blow for Koeman who, despite having a healthy transfer pot to spend, has so far been unable to attract any major new signings to the club.
On top of that defender John Stones is inching closer to a move to Manchester City and striker Romelu Lukaku is still being linked with a return to Chelsea.
