James McCarthy could miss the next two weeks of action after the Everton midfielder learned he needs surgery on a groin injury.
The Republic of Ireland international was heavily linked with a move away from Goodison Park on transfer deadline day, with Crystal Palace, Sunderland and West Brom all thought to have made enquiries.
However, Everton rebuffed all offers for McCarthy despite him facing a struggle to force his way into Ronald Koeman’s plans, according to reports.
McCarthy’s plight has not been helped by the news he needs to undergo minor surgery on a groin problem.
The procedure will keep him out of the Republic of Ireland’s World Cup qualifier with Serbia and Everton’s next Premier League game at Sunderland on September 12.
