Axel Witsel’s father has confirmed that Zenit St Petersburg are in talks with Everton – but Napoli have also made a ‘concrete’ offer.
Witsel’s future is likely to be decided in the next few days after Belgium’s exit from Euro 2016 at the hands of Wales on Friday night.
The former Benfica star is looking to leave Russia and has two ‘concrete’ offers on the table, according to his father, from Everton and Napoli.
The Serie A club have made an favourable impression on the player with Witsel’s father telling Radio CRC that their proposal, delivered in person, is being considered.
Thierry Witsel said: “It’s true I met with [Napoli sporting director] Cristiano Giuntoli in Brussels. It was a positive discussion and there could be interest by both parties, so we’ll see how things evolve.
“Everton’s interest is concrete, like Napoli’s, so the negotiation is ongoing, and to see if the marriage happens we have to see the conditions and understand what is the best destination for the player.
“Napoli is a great club. They had [Diego] Maradona amongst their protagonists so they don’t need to be praised.
“[Dries] Mertens spoke very highly of Napoli with Axel. He knows that going to Napoli would mean joining a big club and making a step forward in his career.”
