Southampton have refused Ronald Koeman permission to speak to Everton about taking over as their manager, according to reports.
It had been widely reported that Everton hoped to land the Saints manger as early as this weekend but the latest developments would indicate that is not going to happen.
With the Dutchman under contract on the south coast the St Mary’s outfit need to give their permission to the manager before he can speak to Everton and that has not happened.
Koeman’s agent Rob Jansen has confirmed that Everton have made contact with the Saints about the Dutchman but it would appear hopes of an early deal look to be on the wane.
Meanwhile hopes of persuading Sevilla’s Monchi to take up a director of football role at the club also appear to be stalling after he claimed he was leaving Seville as he needed a rest from football. Everton will continue to work hard behind the scenes to get both deals done as soon as possible.
