Everton have rejected a £57million offer from Chelsea for Romelu Lukaku but an improved second bid is expected.
Lukaku has made no secret of his desire to play Champions League football and, although Chelsea cannot offer the chance to compete in Europe’s top competition in the coming campaign, it is understood he is open to a return to Stanford Bridge as the Blues prepare to challenge for at least a top-four finish next term.
The Belgium international left Chelsea for Everton in a £28million deal in 2014 but his stock has risen significantly and the Merseysiders have rejected a £57m bid from West London, according to reports on Saturday.
However, Everton accept that Lukaku is keen to depart and are open to a sale – but they will demand a staggering £75m for his signature this summer.
Chelsea are believed to be in negotiations with Everton over a deal in the hope a compromise can be reached.
