Everton boss Roberto Martinez has stressed the importance of putting in a much-improved performance against Sunderland on Wednesday.
MartinezÂ’s position in charge of the Toffees has come into question over recent weeks after a string of underwhelming displays.
The Merseyside outfitÂ’s latest defeat came at the hands of Premier League champions Leicester on Saturday at the King Power Stadium.
The Spaniard has urged his men to avoid another lacklustre showing when they take on relegation-threatened Sunderland on Wednesday.
“There is a lot riding on the game for us after the performance we had [at Leicester on Saturday],” he said. “We need to react and we need to perform in the highest possible level.
“It is good that we have a game around the corner but the importance of our performance is as big as you could feel we had in any other day in the season. I expect to have a performance on Wednesday.”
