Everton: Barkley’s Chelsea U-turn surprised Moshiri

The England midfielder looked set for a move to Stamford Bridge after Everton had reportedly accepted a £35m fee from Chelsea, and he headed south for a medical.

However, Barkley had a change of heart, with reports varying on the timing with some saying it was during the medical, as he wants more time to consider his future.

A groin injury has kept Barkley on the sidelines this term so he has yet to feature for Ronald Koeman’s side, but whether he would have featured given the raft of new arrivals is open to question.

Whatever the reason behind Barkley’s decision to stay at Goodison has certainly surprised caught Moshiri by surprise.

He told Sky Sports: “We heard from his agent that he changed his mind and wanted to reconsider his position during the January transfer window.

“Technically he will be with us because he is under contract for another year. It’s a big surprise but that is football.”
