Liverpool could launch a summer bid for Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen but reports they want Jamie Vardy appear wide of the mark.
With Euro 2016 about to get underway, a whole host of players who will hope to star for their countries in France this summer are being linked with the Reds.
Barca defender Vermaelen is among them with claims the former Arsenal man is after a return to the Premier League and Liverpool and West Ham are reportedly leading the chase to sign him.
The 30-year-old only managed 20 appearances in all competitions for Barca last term after finally overcoming his serious injury problems and could be available for as little as £5million. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is after defensive reinforcements with Martin Skrtel tipped to leave and the future of Mamadou Sakho uncertain after he failed a drugs test towards the end of last season. Klopp may well view Vermaelen as the ideal signing bearing in mind his previous extensive experience in England when he starred at the back for the Gunners.
Meanwhile, reports the Reds are ready to rival Arsenal in the race for Leicester striker Vardy appear fanciful. The England striker has said he will make a decision on his club future after the Euros after the Gunners made an offer of £20million that has activated his release clause.
The Foxes are hopeful of keeping Vardy, however, and it is extremely unlikely Liverpool are interested in any deal for the 29-year-old.
