Aston Villa are interested in West Brom flop Rickie Lambert but the striker is keen to remain at The Hawthorns.
The former Southampton and Liverpool forward managed to score just one goal for the Baggies last season after his £3million switch last summer.
Reports have claimed that Villa boss Roberto Di Matteo is interested in Lambert – who could be the ‘strong striker’ that club owner Tony Xia outlined as a transfer priority.
West Brom have not received an enquiry for the 34-year-old frontman and would be reluctant to let him go before securing a replacement.
Saido Berahino continues to be linked with a move to another Premier League club and, following the release of Victor Anichebe, allowing Lambert to go could leave Tony Pulis short of options up front.
Lambert recently said he would like to feature for the Baggies next season but he’s also open to a move in order to find first-team football.
“I would love to be able to help West Brom and contribute, but if I’m not then obviously I have to make a decision and maybe go somewhere else,” he told Sky Sports.
“My objective is to help West Brom, that’s what I want to do. Obviously it didn’t happen last year. I’ll have to see what happens in the summer and when I get back.”
