Newcastle goalkeeper Rob Elliot will today undergo an operation to repair the knee ligaments he damaged on international duty.
The 29-year-old ruptured his knee ligaments when playing for the Republic of Ireland against Slovakia last week and will miss the rest of the season.
The injury came as a huge hammer blow to Elliot, who had established himself as Newcastle’s number one following an injury to Tim Krul, while he was also heading to the European Championships with Ireland before injury struck.
However, the player seemed in good spirits as he took to social media to confirm he will undergo the operation today.
“Operation day!! Have ordered one new acl replacement from the menu for a right knee,” he tweeted.
